If your business turnover exceeds the threshold, GST registration is mandatory. Here's what you need, how to apply, and what happens after registration.
GST registration is mandatory for businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh for special category states). It is also mandatory for businesses engaged in inter-state supply of goods or services, regardless of turnover, and for e-commerce operators.
For a sole proprietorship: PAN card, Aadhaar card, bank account details, address proof of the business premises, and a passport-size photograph. For a company or LLP: PAN of the entity, certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles of association, and identity/address proof of all directors or partners.
GST registration is done online through the GST portal. The application is submitted with the required documents, and a Temporary Reference Number (TRN) is generated. The application is then reviewed by the GST officer, who may request additional documents or a physical verification. Registration is typically granted within 7–10 working days.
After registration, businesses must file monthly or quarterly GST returns (depending on turnover), maintain proper books of accounts, and issue GST-compliant invoices. Non-compliance attracts penalties. We handle GST registration and ongoing compliance for our business clients.
